As Israel votes for its future, an Israeli citizen warns against division and dictatorship, accusing Benjamin Netanyahu of creating a divide between those considered “real Jews” and those who are not
October 27, 2026: For one Israeli voter, casting a ballot is about far more than choosing a political leader. It is about defending the soul of a nation, preserving democratic values and refusing to allow a deeply divided society to lose sight of its humanity.
“I think that we have to save our country from dictatorship, which is going to happen if Netanyahu wins his seat again,” the voter says, expressing deep concern about the country’s political direction.
At the heart of this concern is a growing sense of division. The voter accuses Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of creating a divide between those considered “real Jews” and those who are not, arguing that such distinctions have no place in a society that claims to value equality and belonging.
“I think it is not the right thing to do,” the voter says, explaining the decision to vote against Netanyahu and in favour of the values they believe in.
The message extends beyond Israel’s borders. The voter argues that the country must reconsider its conduct in international relations, expressing the view that Netanyahu’s hardline approach has contributed to Israel’s difficulties on the world stage.
“I believe that it is specifically Netanyahu’s failure because he acts too radically,” the voter says, adding that, in their view, many Israelis do not support his approach.
The words reflect a struggle over more than one leader or one election. They speak to a fundamental question confronting Israeli society: what kind of country does it want to become, and what values should guide its future?
In Jerusalem, a city burdened with history and competing claims to identity, the voter’s words carry a message that reaches beyond the polling station: loving one’s country can also mean challenging its leadership, questioning its actions and refusing to accept division as the price of belonging.
