"US pleading for an end to war": Mojtaba Khamenei warns Arabian Sea will be cleared of ‘enemy forces

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued a fresh warning to foreign military forces, saying the Arabian Sea will soon be cleared of what Tehran describes as “enemy forces”, as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate.

In a message released on Monday, Khamenei claimed that Iranian forces had pushed opposing forces away from waters off southern Iran towards the Arabian Sea after inflicting what he described as “painful blows” near the Strait of Hormuz. He warned that those forces would eventually be driven out of the Arabian Sea as well.

Khamenei also claimed that the balance of power had shifted in Iran’s favour, saying that “aggressive powers” were now seeking protection from Iranian attacks and “pleading for an end to the war.” The statement did not explicitly name the United States in that passage, although the remarks came amid the continuing confrontation between Washington and Tehran over the Strait of Hormuz.

Tehran has linked any reopening of the waterway to conditions involving US military pressure and restrictions on Iran, while Washington continues to maintain pressure on Tehran.

The rhetoric has also raised concerns about the conflict spreading beyond the Persian Gulf. An adviser to Khamenei, Yahya Rahim Safavi, has warned that continued US or Israeli military action could push the confrontation towards the Indian Ocean, adding another layer of uncertainty for regional shipping and security.

Khamenei’s latest message was issued during Iran’s Sacred Defence Week, which commemorates the Iran-Iraq War, and also coincided with the anniversary of the killing of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in 2024.

The central message from Tehran is clear: Iran says it believes its military pressure has altered the battlefield, while Washington and its allies remain under pressure to find a way out of an increasingly dangerous confrontation.
