In a provocative public call, Pinki Bhaiya, also known as Bhupender Tomar, the national president of the Hindu Raksha Dal, has urged “all Hindutva warriors” to descend on Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where thousands of students and supporters have been protesting over alleged NEET paper leaks and widespread examination irregularities.
The movement, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has focused on demands for accountability, sweeping education reforms, and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. But Tomar’s appeal seeks to transform that education protest into something far more combustible.
Declaring that Sanatan Dharma is under attack, he has called on supporters to “protect” the faith, warning that if they fail to gather, “our children’s future will be shrouded in darkness.” In videos circulated online, he accuses the protesters of being enemies of Sanatan Dharma, the nation, and even the armed forces. Some of his remarks reportedly go further, including threats of physical violence against those assembled at Jantar Mantar. The implications are serious.
Rather than engaging with the students’ demands over education, transparency, and merit, the call appears to reframe the protest as a religious confrontation. At a site already charged with emotion after weeks of demonstrations, the arrival of a counter-mobilisation could dramatically raise the risk of clashes and derail the movement’s original focus.
The development is particularly significant given Hindu Raksha Dal’s history. The organisation and its leader have previously faced multiple FIRs and have been linked to controversial incidents, including allegations of hate speech, inflammatory sloganeering at Jantar Mantar, and other communal flashpoints.
For weeks, Jantar Mantar has symbolised the aspirations of students demanding fairness in India’s education system. Now, it risks becoming the stage for an ideological street battle.
Whether the protest remains a movement for educational justice or is overtaken by communal confrontation may depend on what unfolds in the coming days. The stakes have suddenly become far larger than examination papers.
