NEW DELHI, AUG 4: In Chhapra, Bihar, screams shattered the silence of the night at Loknayak Jai Prakash Institute of Technology (LNJPIT), better known as Chhapra Engineering College, when the principal’s own driver and a security guard forced their way into the locked girls’ hostel around midnight.
What was supposed to be a routine administrative move, shifting newly admitted students and turning single rooms into doubles, exploded into chaos.
According to terrified students, the men, identified as Neeraj Kumar (the principal’s driver who also works as electrical staff) and a guard, breached the heavily restricted women’s wing after 7 PM, when the hostel gates are sealed tight.
College rules strictly forbid any man, even parents in many cases, from entering the girls’ rooms. Yet students allege the men marched inside, allegedly misbehaved, and began dragging out belongings in a frantic bid to enforce the new double-occupancy order.
Panic spread like wildfire. One young woman fainted from sheer stress and had to be helped away. By morning, the campus was on fire with protest.
Hundreds of girl students gathered outside the administrative building, their voices rising in fury and fear, demanding an immediate and impartial investigation. Police rushed to the scene as the confrontation intensified. The incident has ignited fierce debate across Bihar. Local media, including Dainik Bhaskar, and circulating videos have amplified the students’ claims of harassment and intimidation.
Some accounts even place the principal himself at the heart of the late-night drama. A widely shared Facebook post by Supriyo Sarkar captured the raw emotion: after the hostel doors lock, “the real game of terror begins.”
Students speak of threats of false cases if they resist. While the most sensational language reflects the protesters’ lived terror rather than fully verified criminal findings, the core facts stand undisputed, unauthorised male entry into a locked girls’ hostel at midnight, followed by chaos, fainting, and open revolt.
As of now, the matter remains under investigation. No formal criminal charges have been confirmed, but the students are not backing down. In the ruins of trust at one of Bihar’s engineering campuses, a simple room allocation has become a battle cry for safety, dignity, and the right of young women to study without fear after dark.
