In the shadowed aftermath of one of India’s most brazen terror attacks in recent years, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has broken his silence with a message that echoes far beyond New Delhi’s corridors of power.
Speaking in the Discovery docuseries Declassified: Operation Sindoor, Doval pulled back the curtain on the 88-hour military campaign that followed the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam massacre, and delivered a blunt declaration to the world: India’s patience is not weakness, and its response will not be constrained by fear of consequences.
The Pahalgam attack claimed 26 innocent lives. The perpetrators, according to Doval, taunted their victims with a direct challenge to the Indian leadership: “Jaake Modi ko bol do jo kar sakta hai kar le”– go tell Modi to do whatever he can. That arrogance crossed a threshold. Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short a foreign visit.
At the airport itself, he demanded the facts and asked the decisive question: “Who has done it?” His directive, as recalled by Doval, was unambiguous: “We will go after them. Zameen mein ho, aasman mein ho, paatal mein ho, woh log jahan bhi hai… We will not forgive them.” Wherever they hide, on land, in the sky, or underground, India would pursue them.
What followed was Operation Sindoor, launched in the early hours of May 7, 2025. Indian forces conducted precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, specifically targeting camps linked to the Pahalgam attackers. Intelligence agencies delivered rapid, accurate identification of the perpetrators.
The objective, Doval stated, was clear from the outset: the destruction of those enemy camps. When Pakistan responded, India answered with counter-offensives. The confrontation lasted nearly 88 hours before an understanding brought hostilities to a close on the evening of May 10.
Doval’s account is more than a recap of military action. It is a deliberate articulation of strategic doctrine. “Message to the world is very clear, India’s generosity or India being tolerant should not be mistaken for its weakness. India can take risks, India can hit hard, irrespective of the consequences,” he said. The fight against terrorism, he added, ends only when the last terrorist is eliminated. Once engaged, there are no artificial limits: “We fight till the last drop of blood.”
This is not rhetoric for domestic applause. It is a calibrated signal to adversaries, partners, and the international community. For years, India has been portrayed by some as restrained to the point of hesitation. Operation Sindoor, and Doval’s unflinching description of it, rejects that narrative. The operation demonstrated technological sophistication, operational precision, and political will, capabilities that allow India to respond below the nuclear threshold while imposing real costs on those who sponsor or shelter terrorists.
The timing of these revelations amplifies their weight. They come weeks after Doval received the Lokmanya Tilak National Award 2026 in Pune from Home Minister Amit Shah, recognition of his long service as India’s longest-serving National Security Advisor. At that ceremony, Doval urged the nation’s youth to place national interest above personal ambition, framing the present as a critical “window of opportunity.” The award and the documentary together project continuity: quiet, relentless competence paired with public clarity of purpose.
In an era of contested borders, hybrid threats, and shifting global alignments, Doval’s words cut through ambiguity. India’s security establishment is prepared to act decisively when its red lines are crossed. The message is not one of aggression for its own sake, but of deterrence rooted in demonstrated capability and resolve. Adversaries who mistake measured diplomacy for incapacity do so at their peril.
Operation Sindoor was never just about retribution for Pahalgam. It was about redefining the cost calculus of terrorism against India.
