CHURU, RAJASTHAN: AUGUST 6, 2026: A visit to a government hospital turned into a terrifying ordeal for a woman in Rajasthan’s Churu district after a portion of ceiling plaster and the entrance canopy suddenly came crashing down on her, leaving her with a serious head injury.

The incident occurred at the Rajkiya Fatehpuriya Matru Evam Shishu Hospital in Sujangarh and was captured by the hospital’s CCTV cameras.

Footage circulating widely on social media shows the woman near the hospital’s main entrance when, without warning, debris breaks loose from above and crashes directly onto her. People nearby immediately rush towards her as panic spreads through the corridor.

The injured woman was subsequently taken to Government Bagadia Sub-District Hospital, where she was admitted for treatment. Reports indicate that she suffered a serious injury to her head.

But beyond the shocking few seconds captured on CCTV lies a far larger question: How safe are the buildings meant to provide healthcare to the public?

According to reports, the maternity hospital is currently operating from an old trauma-centre building whose deteriorating condition has previously raised concerns. The latest collapse has once again brought the state of ageing public infrastructure sharply into focus.

The incident has triggered anger online, with people demanding structural inspections and accountability before a similar failure results in loss of life.

What should have been one of the safest places for patients became, within seconds, a source of danger itself.

For Rajasthan’s health authorities, the CCTV footage is more than another viral video. It is a disturbing warning that deteriorating public buildings cannot be allowed to remain in service until tragedy finally forces action.
