SIX YEARS LATER, DISHA SALIAN CASE REOPENS: CBI REGISTERS FIR AFTER BOMBAY HC FLAGS ‘GLARING DISCREPANCIES
September 14, 2026: In a major development that reopens one of the most controversial death cases linked to the Sushant Singh Rajput saga, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR into the death of celebrity manager Disha Salian, following a directive from the Bombay High Court.
The move marks a dramatic shift after years in which the Mumbai Police investigation remained under the framework of an Accidental Death Report (ADR) rather than a substantive FIR into a cognisable offence.
The Bombay High Court, while ordering the CBI investigation on September 2, observed that the earlier police inquiry had “many glaring discrepancies” and that it raised more questions than it answered. The court concluded that the case required a proper and substantive investigation.
The court directed the CBI to appoint a senior and experienced investigating officer, record the statement of Disha’s father, Satish Salian, and examine all aspects surrounding the circumstances of her death.
Six years later, the case takes a new turn
Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a high-rise building in Mumbai’s Malad area. Her death came just days before the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, for whom she had worked as a manager. The proximity of the two deaths fuelled intense public speculation, although the Bombay High Court has not established any connection between them.
The High Court has also made an important legal safeguard clear: no individual is to be treated as an accused unless the CBI finds sufficient material creating reasonable suspicion against that person. The court specifically refrained from making findings against any individual and left the question of criminal liability entirely to the investigation.
The court’s order followed a petition by Disha’s father, who had sought a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death. The High Court noted that Mumbai Police had had sufficient opportunity to investigate but had not registered an FIR for a cognisable offence, relying instead on the earlier inquiry procedure.
Now, after six years of unanswered questions, the case is formally back under investigation.
The CBI probe will determine what actually happened, whether a cognisable offence was committed, and whether the evidence supports further criminal proceedings. For now, the investigation has only begun, and allegations circulating in public or political discourse remain allegations unless established by evidence.
This is no longer merely a case surrounded by speculation. The CBI has now entered the picture, with the court directing that every relevant aspect of Disha Salian’s death be examined.
