Dharmendra Pradhan Resigns: A Letter to the Youth
In a deeply personal two-page letter addressed to “Mere Yuva Sathiyon” My Young Friends, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
For more than four decades, Pradhan writes, he has lived for students, teachers, and the cause of education reform. His unwavering belief has always been clear: a strong, inclusive, and visionary education system is the very foundation of a strong nation. He bows with profound respect before the dreams, emotions, and rightful aspirations of India’s youth, the generation whose success is the moral duty of every political and social leader.
He expresses deep gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for the opportunity to serve the nation under his visionary leadership.
Then he turns to the storm that has gripped the country. On 3 May 2026, irregularities surfaced in the NEET-UG examination. The Government of India acted without delay, the matter was handed to the CBI, the exam was cancelled, a fresh date was announced, and a decisive decision was taken to shift the examination to Computer-Based Test mode from next year. The singular priority was clear: more than 20 lakh students must be able to sit for a fair, smooth examination. Through a whole-of-government approach, with the full cooperation of state governments, district administrations, students, and parents, that examination was successfully conducted on 21 June 2026.
From the very first day, Pradhan says, he took full responsibility. He never looked away. His resolve was absolute: no meritorious student’s future would be destroyed by the exam mafia, and no student would face injustice. When the results were declared on 16 July, they brought satisfaction; many brilliant students from the poorest backgrounds had succeeded.
Yet even then, certain individuals in positions of responsibility sought to mislead students. That, he writes, caused him profound distress. The events of the last ten days, he confesses, have filled his heart with sadness. This is not about personal prestige.“India’s youth power is the real strength of this country,” he declares. “I will not allow our young people to be trapped in any web of confusion.” Looking at the situation at Jantar Mantar and across the nation, and determined that anti-national forces must not exploit the moment, that national unity must remain intact, that no student’s future should become entangled in legal complications, and that our children must be free to focus on their studies and their careers, Dharmendra Pradhan has submitted his resignation to the Honourable Prime Minister.
He offers heartfelt thanks to the Prime Minister for his guidance, trust, and unwavering support, and to his cabinet colleagues, ministry officials, and every person with whom he had the privilege to work. National service, he affirms, remains the highest priority of his life. He will remain forever dedicated to it.
With the blessings of Lord Jagannath, he pledges to continue dedicating himself, in every possible way, to the aspirations of Mother India, the people of Odisha, and the youth of this nation.
