NEW DELHI: July 30, 2026: Student leader and AISA National President Neha Bora has issued one of her strongest public statements yet against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the police action against students during the 20 July “Sansad Chalo” march was carried out under his direct authority.
Addressing the aftermath of the protest, Bora claimed that the deployment of force by the Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) was not an isolated policing decision but a centrally directed operation under the Ministry of Home Affairs. She pointed to official records, including a General Diary entry at Parliament Street Police Station, which reportedly show that RAF personnel fired multiple non-lethal munitions, including tear gas shells, electrical and non-electrical shells, and two rounds of plastic pellets from anti-riot guns on the instructions of a Deputy Commissioner of Police-rank officer.
According to Bora, the use of plastic pellets left several students injured, with one protester allegedly facing the possibility of permanent vision loss in one eye. She argued that the force used against demonstrators demanding accountability over the NEET examination controversy amounted to an attack on citizens exercising their constitutional right to peaceful protest.
Bora further alleged that the crackdown has disproportionately affected Muslim and Dalit youth, claiming that selective FIRs, detentions, and continued harassment reflect a pattern of political targeting rather than impartial law enforcement. She described the response as an “anti-Muslim and anti-Dalit witch hunt” and accused the government of suppressing dissent instead of addressing students’ concerns.
Directly addressing the Home Minister, Bora declared that India’s youth would hold “Amit Shah and the entire apparatus under his command” accountable for “every pellet fired, every baton swung, and every young life endangered.” She concluded with a warning that the struggle for justice, transparency, and accountability would continue, adding, “History is watching.”
The Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi Police had not publicly responded to Bora’s allegations at the time of writing.
