Boeing 767 Overruns Runway, Strikes Vehicles and Bursts Into Flames; Five Injured as NTSB Launches Investigation
A cargo Boeing 767 operated on behalf of Amazon crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday after overrunning the runway, striking vehicles and erupting into flames, killing at least five people and injuring five others.
The aircraft came off the runway during the incident, triggering a major emergency response at one of the United States’ busiest airports. Thick smoke and flames were reported following the crash as firefighters and emergency crews rushed to the scene.
Authorities have begun securing the crash site while investigators work to determine what caused the aircraft to leave the runway. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has sent investigators to Miami to examine the wreckage, flight data and other evidence that could help establish the sequence of events.
The identities of those killed and injured have not immediately been released.
The crash is also expected to cause significant disruption to airport operations, with delays and possible changes to flight schedules anticipated as authorities manage the emergency response and investigation.
Officials are urging travellers to check with airlines for updated flight information as the investigation continues.
