GEN ALPHA IN A POLICE OFFICER’S ARMS: LUCKNOW PROTEST VIDEO GOES VIRAL

Probably the first of its kind – a child being detained for “protesting” the rise of sugar!

AUGUST 24: A striking image from a women’s protest in Lucknow has gone viral, capturing a moment that is both oddly tender and politically loaded. During a Samajwadi Party women workers’ demonstration against rising inflation in Hazratganj on Sunday, a female police officer was seen carrying a young girl in her arms as protesters were being detained.

The girl, believed to be around 8–10 years old, appeared relaxed and even playful as the officer gently carried her towards a police vehicle. The unusual scene quickly became the focus of social-media attention, overshadowing the confrontation surrounding the protest.

SP women workers had gathered to protest rising prices of sugar, LPG and other essential commodities. The demonstration reportedly turned tense after a scuffle with police, following which several protesters were detained and taken to Eco Garden.

The child had reportedly accompanied her mother to the protest. Police picked her up while clearing the gathering.

A video shared on X by @MeIndian03 added a layer of political satire, captioned: “Modi started preparing for Gen Z. Gen Alpha is out of Syllabus.”

The image may look almost innocent. But behind that smile lies a sharper political question: when inflation pushes adults onto the streets, what does it say about the politics of the day when even their children become part of the scene?
