On 10 August 2026, Delhi witnessed an extraordinary protest as saints, mahants and mahamandaleshwars took to the streets demanding answers over allegations of theft and misappropriation of devotees’ offerings at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

New Delhi: On the saints’ protest over the Ram Mandir theft case, Independent MP Pappu Yadav says, “…The saints are saying that the thieves in the Ram Mandir should be let out, and the saints should be given the position. They have come to protect the sanctity of temples across the entire country. This is a continuous fight. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav are all standing with the saints in this fight. We are following the path laid out by these saints; we are driven by our devotion. (If the government remains silent on this matter) the saints will launch a major protest.”
Reports put the gathering at anywhere from more than 100 to nearly 500 religious figures, with prominent voices including Computer Baba, Namdev Das Tyagi, and Prakashanand Giri Maharaj. The march began around Mandi House and the Nepal Embassy area, with the protesters seeking to proceed towards the Prime Minister’s residence to submit a memorandum demanding a fair, independent, high-level investigation, including a CBI probe.
The demand was blunt: if devotees have offered their cash, jewellery and valuables in faith, then every rupee and every ornament must be accounted for.
Police stopped the march, citing security considerations, with restrictions including Section 163 of the BNSS reported in some accounts. The protesters nevertheless continued to raise their voices, demanding accountability, transparency and action against anyone found responsible. Independent MP Pappu Yadav was also reported to have joined the protest.
The controversy erupted in June after allegations that offerings were being siphoned off during the counting process at the temple, administered by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. An SIT investigation subsequently led to an FIR, arrests of eight people, and recovery of nearly ₹80 lakh. CCTV footage reportedly showed numerous suspected incidents of pilferage. Trust officials have denied systemic wrongdoing, while the investigation continues.
But this is no longer merely an opposition charge.
When saints themselves walk into the streets demanding an accounting of donations made in the name of Ram, the question acquires a different weight. The issue is not simply money. It is faith, trust and accountability.
Devotees gave in the belief that their offerings were sacred. Their demand now is equally simple: show them where those offerings went.
